How to make Crispy Breaded Pork Chops in the Oven:
How to make Oven Fried Pork Chops:

Making homemade crispy breaded oven baked pork chops is super simple! At the bottom of this post you can find the recipe card which will include full instructions and the ingredient amounts, but first here's a little overview on how to make this recipe.

First, boneless pork chops are coated in mustard, then covered in a breadcrumb mixture. A little oil is drizzled into the bottom of a large glass baking dish or rimmed baking sheet, then the pork chops are laid out evenly. Drizzle a little more oil over top of the pork chops to make sure that they get that nice crisp top, then place the baking dish into the oven to bake for 25 minutes at 400°F.

What is the best kind of pork chop to use for this recipe?

The best kind of pork to use for this recipe is boneless chops. One of the great things about this recipe, is that you can buy a whole pork tenderloin and cut it into chops quite easily!

You could definitely use bone in pork chops for this recipe, but please keep in mind that you'll need to add more time for them to bake. For the sake of ease and simplicity, I prefer to use boneless chops for this recipe.

How do you get breading to stick to pork chops?
How to make breaded pork chops without eggs?

Typically when breading any kind of meat, eggs are used to hold the breading and seasonings on. For this recipe I use a little bit of a different method that's just as effective!

For this recipe, the easiest way to make the breading stick to the pork chops is to smother them in mustard, then coat the chops in the breadcrumb mixture. The mustard will act as a sort of “glue” to hold the breadcrumb mixture on the pork chops instead of eggs. The mustard will give the pork chops a wonderful flavour and also hold the breadcrumbs in place just as good as egg do!

How long do baked pork chops go in the oven for?

For this recipe you'll bake your pork chops for about 25 minutes or until they're crisp on the outside.

TIP: One of the great things about this recipe is that you can use frozen pork chops if you were in a hurry! When I made this recipe I was running very short on time and had forgotten to thaw my pork chops. No worries though! I took the frozen pork chops, coated them in mustard, then covered them in breading, then baked them for about 40 minutes. They turned out wonderful!

Do you cover pork chops when you bake them in the oven?

In order for your pork chops did become nice and crispy on the outside, you'll need to bake them uncovered. This will allow the steam to escape, rather than trapping it in with the pork chops, which would make them less crisp than you're expecting.

Leftover Pork Chops?

If you have any leftovers, store them in a air tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. When store in the freezer, they'll be good for about 3 months.

How to reheat leftover breaded pork chops – preheat the oven to 350°F. Place pork chops on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 10 minutes or until warmed through.

Recipe Variations

Breading – You don't only have to use Italian bread crumbs for this recipe! You could try using panko breadcrumbs, corn flake crumbs, or any leftover seasoned bread. You could also try adding some grated parmesan cheese to your breading mixture!

The “glue” to hold the Breading – For this recipe I used prepared mustard as the “glue”, but you could dredge the pork chops in egg before coating in the breadcrumbs. Instead of using regular prepared mustard, you could also change things up a bit and use dijon mustard!

Seasonings – For some added flavour, you could add some fresh herbs or other seasonings to your bread crumb mixture! A few ideas are; smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, etc.

Instead of Canola/Cooking oil – Instead of using cooking oil or canola oil, you could use a little melted butter on the bottom of the baking sheet/glass baking dish. Don't forget to put some on top too, so you end up with nice crispy pork chops!

Another good alternative to using oil in this recipe, is to use cooking spray!

What to Serve with Crispy Oven Fried Pork Chops

Crispy breaded oven pork chops are great served along with any variety of potatoes (baked, fried, etc) with a side of steamed veggies. Below are a few more ideas:

  • Fried Rice
  • Scalloped Potatoes
  • Creamy Cucumber Dill Greek Yogurt Salad
  • Corn Fritters

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pork chops, boneless
  • 4 tbsps prepared mustard
  • 1 cup Italian style bread crumbs
  • Canola oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

  3. Coat all surfaces of each pork chop with prepared mustard.
  4. Next, put the breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl, then coat the pork chops so they're completely covered. You can use your hands to pat the bread crumbs into the pork chops so the coating sticks.
  5. Place the pork chops on the baking sheet or in the glass baking dish, then drizzle a little oil over their tops. This will help make the coating nice and crispy.
  6. Bake the pork chops in the oven (uncovered) for about 25 minutes or until the outsides are crisp and golden.
