What are Donair Oven Subs?
Donair Oven Subs are a fun and easy twist on the classic Halifax donair. You’ve got all the same great flavors – spiced donair meat, tangy-sweet donair sauce, and fresh veggies – but served in a toasted sub roll and baked until the cheese is melty.
Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or as a treat for the weekend, these subs bring the delicious flavors of the donair into sandwich form, with a little extra love from the oven.
Donairs are incredibly popular in Atlantic Canada and can often be found at local pizza shops, like Greco Pizza, where they're a beloved menu staple.
What are Donair Oven Subs made of?
Donair Oven Subs are made using a combination of flavorful and simple ingredients that come together to create a delicious meal. The star of the dish is the spiced donair meat, which you can prepare using the Halifax donair meat recipe or you can also use store bought if you're lucky enough to find it in your area.
To complete the dish, you'll also need the signature sweet and garlicky homemade donair sauce. Mozzarella cheese adds a nice, melty touch when baked, while fresh chopped onions and tomatoes provide a refreshing crunch. The sub rolls are lightly toasted to give them just the right amount of crisp before assembling the subs.
