Over this past weekend while traveling to visit with family and some old friends in New Brunswick, Canada we stopped to have supper in a restaurant called Jungle Jim's Eatery which is located in the town of Oromocto.
I had heard great things about Jungle Jim's however hadn't had the chance to visit previously so I took the opportunity when my father suggested we go there for supper. I was quite excited to be able to have a nice meal somewhere different and was looking forward to not having to prepare a meal myself (even though I love to cook).
Jungle Jim's is known for their unique atmosphere including artificial palm trees, tropical fish and various decorations adorning the walls and ceiling. It reminds me very much of a Hawaiian themed or Tiki hut kind of bar. I found that the decor and the atmosphere was perfect for keeping my son Donnie busy while waiting for his food to arrive. Within the restaurant there is also a bar where patrons can view sports games on large screen TVs. I didn't find that the bar detracted from the restaurant's family friendliness at all. I actually found it nice to be in a place that was accommodating to both adults and kids and it was a refreshing change compared to some other exclusively kid centered restaurants.
There is a wide selection of appetizers and meals to choose from and it also had section for kids meals allowing for a good variety. The kids meal allows for a choice of drink, main dish, a side and a dessert and also gives the child the opportunity to pick a small toy/prize out of a treasure chest. Before being seated we were also provided with small packs of crayons and place mats which doubled as activity and coloring sheets – Donnie really enjoyed sitting in his highchair scribbling away at the paper. 🙂
For my supper I decided on having the Slim Chicken Taquitos with a Greek salad and was very pleased with the presentation as well as the deliciousness of the dish. For my son I chose the fish and chips on the kids menu but opted for sweet potato fries rather than the usual plain potato fries. My father had the adult sized fish and chips and my sister decided upon the Pulled Pork Sandwich with sweet potato fries. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals, including Donnie who ended up only have a small amount of leftovers to take with him.
The only piece of constructive criticism I would have for my sister's and Donnie's meal is that there could have been a little something added for color to boost the presentation. This is a very minor observation though and it really didn't have an impact on how much they enjoyed their meals.

I found that the waitress was very friendly and helpful when asking questions or requesting substitutions (sweet potato fries instead of plain potato fries). Our waitress also came by to check on our table several times, asking if we'd like refills and if we'd like dessert. We felt welcomed at the restaurant and also didn't feel like we were being rushed to leave; which can sometimes happen when you bring kids with you to a restaurant.
The washroom had a fold down change table which was convenient but I did find that stalls could use some maintenance. ex. one of the toilets was coming loose from the floor and was easily shifted if bumped into. Aside from that the washroom was clean and well equipped.
Overall I found that it was a great restaurant for families as well as people looking for something different. Great food, friendly staff and a unique experience overall. I would recommend this place to anyone who has an appetite!
