  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Optional: squeeze of fresh lemon juice

Instructions

Microwave Instructions (Fastest)

If using frozen green beans

  1. Add frozen green beans to a microwave-safe dish.
  2. Top with butter, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cover loosely.
  4. Microwave on high 5–7 minutes, until hot and tender.
  5. Stir, then add red pepper flakes or lemon juice if desired.

If using fresh green beans

  1. Add green beans to a microwave-safe dish with 2 tablespoons water.
  2. Cover and microwave on high 6–8 minutes, until tender.
  3. Drain water.
  4. Add butter, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  5. Microwave 1 more minute to melt butter.
  6. Finish with red pepper flakes or lemon juice if desired.

Stovetop Instructions

Prep first

  • Frozen: Cook according to package directions; drain.
  • Fresh: Boil in salted water 3–4 minutes; drain.

Finish

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Add green beans, season with salt and pepper.
  4. Toss and cook 2–3 minutes.
  5. Finish with red pepper flakes or lemon juice if desired.

Oven Instructions (Dump-and-Bake)

Before baking

  • Frozen: No prep needed.
  • Fresh: Add 1–2 tablespoons water to the baking dish.

Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Add green beans to a small baking dish.
  3. Scatter butter over top and sprinkle with garlic, salt, and pepper.
