Butter Tart Squares




  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour


  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar (regular brown sugar is fine too)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup raisins (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix 1 1/2 cups flour and 1/4 cup sugar. Blend in 1/2 cup softened butter until the mixture is crumbly. Press into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Bake the crust for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup melted butter with brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and 1 tbsp flour until smooth. Stir in raisins and nuts if using.
  5. Pour the filling over the baked crust.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the filling is set.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan, then cut into squares.
