A few weeks ago my toddler came down with a fever and I was concerned my current thermometer wasn't taking accurate measurements. My previous one was a cheap little thing that was included in one of those small baby kits with the nail clippers and whatnot. You couldn't even change the battery with the previous one and your only option is basically to throw it away when the power runs out. I was taking Donnie's temperature under the arm, which is not all that accurate to begin with but there's no getting anywhere near his other “temperature taking place” without a fight.
I picked up the Braun ThermoScan 5 Ear Thermometer at a local drugstore and so far I am very pleased with how it functions and with how quick it takes an accurate temperature reading. I really like that it's simple to use with only a few buttons to operate. Press the start button and within 1 second after placing the thermometer in the ear it will beep and the temperature reading is done! It takes no time at all and makes it much less difficult to get an accurate reading from an impatient child who doesn't hold still.

There are also different options you can set such as setting it to read in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Another convenient feature is that it keeps track of the last 8 temperatures recorded in it's memory. I really like hat feature since I don't have to worry about going by my own memory or recording the temperatures somewhere. The package came with a protective case for the thermometer, 20 disposable lens covers and also 2 AA batteries – yes – it even came with batteries!
Bottom line: it's easy to use, accurate, high quality and the battery is replaceable. I honestly can't think of any criticism to say about this product. It seems to be worth every penny and I highly recommend it!
