I was very young when I met my husband back in 2003 – In fact I was only 18 years old and was just starting my first year of university. He was a first year student as well and followed nervously behind me as I walked into one of the big frosh events and tapped me on my shoulder.
“I like your spikes!” he blurted loudly over the sound of the rock band playing on stage in the arena.
“What?” I shockingly replied, turned and looked up at this 6'2″ skinny guy towering over my mere 5′ tall self decked out in my whole collection of gothic and punk style jewelery.
From that moment on we've been next to inseparable. I knew right away that this guy was my match. In fact I can trace it back to the very day we met when he later tried to demonstrate one of his karate high kick moves and fell flat on his behind. No guy had ever tried to impress me like that before and I thought it was adorable.
It's not all been magic and fairy dust though – we've absolutely had our ups and downs – like any couple has. After all these years we've been through a lot together and that is part of recipe for the glue that holds us together. We know each other better than anyone else. We see the good, the not so good and the beautiful in one another that no one else sees.
We were married on this date in 2008 but have been together since 2003 and it feels long enough to be a life time. It'll be nice to be that old cranky couple sitting together on their porch swing complaining about the neighbors kids. I'm excited for the many more years together!
